UKMO Store-Level Regular REL Judging Certification
The UK Magic Officials executive committee is delighted to present our long-awaited Store-Level Regular REL Judging Certification! Our goal for this qualification is to give Tournament Organisers confidence that when they hire a judge with this certification, they are hiring someone who is able to run a regular rules enforcement level event on their own. The requirements for this certification have been defined on this basis. To arrange an examination, please make arrangements by contacting us.
In order to be certified as a UKMO Store-Level Regular REL Judge, you will need to:
Pass an in-person proctored, semi-closed book exam (access to the official MTR, CR and JAR documents is permitted; access to Oracle/Gatherer is NOT permitted), consisting of 20 rules questions and 5 policy questions, with a 70% pass mark (with a minimum of 60% on each section) and a 90 minute time limit
Have judged at two WPN sanctioned events within the last 6 months
Obtain a recommendation from a TO (not yourself) for whom you have judged (this can be a simple confirmation that a TO would be happy to work with you and can be reported by the reviewing judge)
Obtain a review from either a TO (not yourself) or another judge who has held a Judge Apps-recognised certification continuously for at least 1 year covering:
- knowledge of store-level Regular REL tournament logistics (familiarity with EventLink/Companion is desirable but not required)
- understanding of basic rules (turn structure, combat, casting spells, the stack)
- your ability to handle a rules call with good customer service and professionalism
- knowledge of how to look up rules and policy, and where to get help
- your ability to handle serious problems
The UK Magic Officials Executive Committee will provide final sign-off of your certification once you have completed the above, providing that your reviews are satisfactory.
