In the future we will be expanding our certifications system more broadly to allow tournament officials and those who hire us to see greater granularity about the skills of the people they might want to hire for their events.
If you are a someone who organises Magic: the Gathering events, or who employs someone to do this, and you would like to have your say when it comes to how we design our certifications, please do get in touch and let us know about you and your events.

Our Regular REL and Competitive REL Judging certifications gives event organisers confidence that when they hire a Judge with this certification that they are hiring someone who is able to run an event at that Rules Enforcement Level on their own. The requirements for this certification have been defined on this basis. These certifications do not speak to an individual’s ability to lead and manage teams, for which we intend to develop certifications in future.

UKMO Regular REL Judging Certification
The UKMO Regular REL Judging Certification is given to an individual who has demonstrated a working knowledge of the basic game rules and how to resolve gameplay errors at Regular REL in-line with the Judging at Regular REL policy document. Additionally, this individual has demonstrated their ability to deliver good customer service to players at their events whilst maintaining good standards of professionalism. Beyond simply knowledge of specific rules interactions and the ability to recite them, UKMO members holding this certification understand the rules and can explain them to players in a friendly, professional manner. They have the understanding of when and how to find answers to questions they do not already know, whether by navigating the rules documents or by speaking to the wider community.
