Hello, Magic Officials!

With the Edge of Eternities prerelease just around the corner, we thought that it's about time we tell you what's been going on in Magic, and what we've been up to!

Edge of Eternities Release Notes

Edge of Eternities prereleases start on Friday July 25th, and the set releases proper August 1st. Ahead of your prerelease and release events, do take a moment to go through the release notes for Edge of Eternities to familiarise yourself with the set's mechanics and individual oddities. In particular, there's Planets and Spacecraft, a pair of new vehicle-esque land and artifact subtypes (respectively) for you to throw your creatures into via the Station keyword (even when they're summoning sick!); Warp, an evoke-esque alternate casting cost for permanents that exile themselves at the end of the turn but can be cast from exile after that (similar to Adventures); and Void, an ability word giving your spells some extra oomph if a nonland permanent you control left the battlefield or if you cast something for its warp cost this turn; as well as returning favourites like Landfall and Shocklands. Best of luck out there on The Edge!

Vehicle (and Spacecraft) Commanders

With the release of Edge of Eternities, one important rules change should be called out. Starting from August 1st, Legendary Vehicles and Legendary Spacecraft will join Legendary Creatures as permanents you can choose to be your commander by default, as long as they have a power/toughness box in the bottom right. This means that not only can you pick any of the new Vehicles and Spacecraft coming with EOE as your commander (except for The Eternity Elevator), but it also applies to all existing vehicles as well, so look forward to making all the Norwegian Forest Cats your heart desires in Esika's Chariot or flooding the sky with angels in Parhelion II! Looking to the future, Gavin Verhey has said "We've reached the idea that if a legendary permanent has a power and toughness box on its front face, it's eligible to be a commander", so keep an eye out for potential changes for new types moving forward!

Welcoming Our New Treasurer

Since we spoke to you last, the UKMO committee has appointed a new Treasurer, in the form of Norman Ralph. Norman is a beloved mainstay of the UK Magic community, and comes to us full of excellent ideas and enthusiasm for shaping the future of UKMO. Along with his decade of experience as a judge, scorekeeper and tournament organiser, Norman's career in financial management and governance across public, private and third sector organisations will help continue the work of our outgoing Treasurer, David Lyford-Tilley. We'd like to extend our thanks and congratulations to Norman on his new role and repeat our appreciation for David for helping us get UKMO off the ground, and hope all of you will do so too!

Mana Tracker

In these trying times of Modern Amulet Titan Combos, we know how important it is to have good quality mana tracking tools. To that end, we've put together a little tool for mana tracking that you might find useful! Available here on the UKMO website, this tool features customisable mana buckets, storm and discard count trackers, custom counters, and most crucially of all a history tracker so that when the combo goes sideways you can reconstruct where it went wrong- very important for tracking status information, after all! Please do give it a go, and do send us your feedback if you want anything more out of it!

Competetive REL Judging Certification

UK Magic Officials is pleased to announce the Competitive REL Judging certification! The Baseline Competitive REL Judging Certification is given to an individual who has demonstrated a developed knowledge of the game rules. Included in this is a demonstrated ability to apply the Magic: the Gathering Infractions Procedures Guide to resolve gameplay errors as well as other tournament policy violations in-line with written guidelines. Additionally, this individual has demonstrated their ability to deliver good customer service to players at their events whilst maintaining good standards of professionalism. Beyond simply knowledge of specific rules interactions and the ability to recite them, UKMO members holding this certification understand the rules and can explain them to players in a friendly, professional manner. They have the understanding of when and how to find answers to questions they do not already know, whether by navigating the rules documents or by speaking to the wider community.

That's all for our Edge of Eternity update newsletter. We know that the Competetive REL Judging Certification has been eagerly awaited by many of you, and thank you all for bearing with us while we've worked to make it a reality- as always, we appreciate all of your patience and enthusiasm, and look forward to seeing you work towards attaining the certification for yourselves!
